Book Release! “Finding Home”
I’m super excited to announce the release of my first book, “Finding Home.”
When I agreed to let my kids foster a hurt little red heeler from our local shelter, I had no idea it would turn into this.
The story wrote itself as it played out in our life, and it was too meaningful not to share.
If you or your child loves animals, this is a book for you. Full of hurt and healing, disappointment and hope, “Finding Home” would make a great read for the whole family, one of our favorite ways to read books.

Finding Dixie
I was not keen on the idea of fostering a dog. Dogs, I have found, are the neediest of any pets. However, they also seem to give the most in return as they build bonds and heal hearts. Dixie was supposed to be in our home for two weeks. She had the first skin graft ever given at the local shelter after she had been caught in a snare trap that tore up her leg. It was poorly cared for over the course of several days. This created further complications before she was surrendered to the shelter.
As soon as she was placed, shaking and scared in our car, the kids began talking about adopting her, but I made it clear upfront. That was NOT going to happen. Well, it seemed other plans were in the works.
Two weeks turned into two months. Each appointment they told us she needed more time. And everyone was a little relieved, especially Avonlea, with who she had formed some incredible bond–seldom leaving her side when it wasn’t yet time for her to leave.
As time passed, I knew it was going to be harder and harder to take her back to the shelter. When adoption time came, and another family took her home, everyone, including me, was left crying and despondent for days. Somehow, it didn’t end up being for long and Dixie found her way back home.
Now, it’s hard to imagine life without her, even though she is a wild one, somehow it’s undeniable that she was meant to be a part of our family.
